Is Anubis an MOD / Career Transition Partnership (CTP) Preferred Supplier?

Yes. Uniquely not only is Anubis a CTP Preferred Supplier for both our CP and CSC Courses, we are also the only private security company in the UK to be recommended by the CTP as their ‘in-house’ preferred training provider for security related training courses.

Can I use my ELC or resettlement money to pay for the course?

Yes - since November 2007 we have been registered with ELCAS. Our CP course is a level 3 qualification and our CSC course is level 5. Our ELCAS number is 2472.

Why choose Anubis?

Anubis was founded in November 2005 by three of its current directors who each possess unique skills and unrivalled qualifications and experience in the field of private security. Each director has a minimum of level 4 teaching and level 5 CSC instructor certification and collectively they possess many decades experience in both the military environment (including Special Forces) and UK Metropolitan Police Royalty Protection. By being leaders in the field, our courses are given credibility, which improves the employability of our graduates. Our aim is to continue to deliver the ‘best’ quality courses available.

Do I need any previous experience in the private security industry to successfully complete a course?

No – our experienced and highly qualified instructors will teach you all the knowledge required. Our courses are subject to the quality control mechanisms and higher education standards of our accrediting bodies. All of these bodies ensure that our courses are delivered in the most effective way and we ensure that we provide our students with all the support they need to be successful. Our interests are the same as yours and we work hard to ensure that the course is right for the applicants by running seminars and answering any questions from potential students before they invest with us.

Do I need any previous qualifications or skills to apply?

No – but for the CP course you do need a full driving licence for the practical elements of the course undertaken in the public domain. The CSC course is more suitable for someone looking for a consultancy or management role in the private security industry, therefore some previous management experience is desirable.

Will I gain a recognised and worthwhile qualification?

Yes – all our courses are accredited by a Higher Education body namely: Buckinghamshire New University (BNU). In addition to this awarding body we are also accredited by ‘Skills for Security’ who are the UK skills & standards setting body for the security business sector. Most recently our level 5 Certified Security Consultant (CSC) Course has been accredited by the Institute of Risk Management (IRM) who leads the way in risk management.

Will I be able to apply for an SIA licence after completion of the Close Protection Course?

Yes – Anubis is an approved training provider for SIA CP licence to practice qualifications. An SIA licence now enables you to legally work in England, Wales and Scotland. Although technically a private CPO working outside the UK does not require an SIA licence, it is becoming increasingly common for most major companies to insist on this as a minimum requirement for International employment. A licence currently costs £245 and is valid for three years.

What kind of pay can I expect to receive after I have successfully completed the course?

This is dependent on the course you choose, your previous experience and employment opportunities / contracts available at the time. As a guide a SIA licensed Close Protection Operative in the UK can expect to be paid between about £120 to £200 per day with a team leader earning up to £350. It is worth remembering that a CP licence also entitles you to legally work in other SIA regulated sectors including manned guarding and as a door supervisor. A Security Consultant can expect to be paid anything between £250 and £1000 per day, depending on their experience and the client they are working for.

Can I expect any help with finding work post-course?

Many training providers claim to guarantee work to students after a course has been completed. Anubis advice is to be wary of sweeping statements like this. You can be assured of professional advice and the best support available and we will naturally want to employ people we have trained ourselves as and when employment opportunities arise. For service-leavers particularly we take the transition to civilian life and finding work very seriously, after all we have all been there and understand the challenges you are about to face. This is why our courses are specifically tailored to guide you every step of the way. We provide students with practical help such as CV writing and interview techniques, including a mock interview to help them prepare for that all-important employment opportunity. We also offer individual advice on the most suitable areas of work & employers to target.

Is the course suitable to people for whom English is not their first language?

Yes – but our courses are taught in English and you will need a working knowledge of the English language for oral communication, reading and writing. The SIA have issued guidance to training providers that they should not teach English as part of a SIA licence to practice course, and no assistance is provided in any of the examinations. We can however provide educational guidance for students who may need to improve their command of the English language prior to attending one of our courses. If in doubt ask.

Is the course suitable for people with learning difficulties?

All our instructors are fully qualified to teach adult learners and are able to offer professional guidance to people with learning difficulties. We would need to know of your particular difficulties in advance of the course in order to support your individual needs. If in doubt just ask and be assured we guarantee you the strictest confidentiality.

FAQs specifically relating to Close Protection (CP)

Is the course pass or fail?

Yes – the CP course has two different types of examination / assessment. One is the SIA close protection licence to practice theory examination consisting of a combination of multiple choice and free-text questions with a pass mark of 70%. The second is an assessment of close protection practical skills mainly undertaken in a role-play environment. In order to pass the course it is a requirement that students pass both the written examination and the practical assessments.

What if I fail the SIA CP written examination?

The majority of students pass first time but occasionally a student does fail. This can be due to a combination of things but fortunately they can come back and take the examination again at a later date. At Anubis we normally arrange this re-sit to coincide with the next available CP Course.

Will I be able to find employment after the course?

The opportunities for a CP licence holder to secure employment in the private security industry are good. It is predominantly a self-employed security sector so reputation and recommendation is everything. Increasingly the quality of the training provider and the individuals who actually trained the SIA licence holder are becoming a key factor in current CP employment. Provided you remain flexible and diverse in the security roles that you are willing to undertake, remember a CP licence allows you to undertake door supervisor and security guarding work also, then career opportunities are available.

Will the CP course prepare me for hostile environments?

Although our course does not specifically offer hostile environment training by name, it is a generic course for executive CP matching all the SIA core competencies and skills. It is worth mentioning that it is NOT a legal requirement of the SIA to undertake ‘Firearms’ or ‘Hostile Environment’ training at all and much of this would be covered during ‘in-house’ deployment training anyway. We do however provide hostile environment awareness training on a bespoke basis. UK and International CP requires a much broader pro-active mix of personal and security related skills to protect a diverse range of clients. In protective security the core role is to preserve the life of the principal and this remains the same in any scenario, whether protecting a corporate individual in the UK or a high-risk VIP in a hostile environment. The principles of close protection can be adapted to fit all situations and environments.

What is covered in the cost?

There are many options for the CP course e.g. with/without accommodation, with/without Fist Aid at Work training and whichever option you book will obviously determine what is covered in the cost (please see our CP booking forms for more information). However, as a guide to the course all lunches are provided whichever option you take and the cost encompasses all administration charges including examination fees. There are no hidden costs.

Do you obtain my SIA licence for me after I have successfully completed the course?

No you must personally apply to the SIA for your CP licence which will unfortunately incur you an additional cost that is presently £245.

What if I am interested in specific areas such as firearms, language training or driver training?

We provide you with a very high level of CP skills, and can give you advice on additional areas of specialist training that you may be interested in.
