CASE STUDY 1 – Anubis Close Protection Course

Many years ago it crossed my mind to venture into the world of close protection but never took the plunge.

3 years on and a baby later I decided to give it a go, believing I could provide my family with a better life (completely wrong order of events in life, but that sums me up quite well) in the years previous I'd looked into training providers and came cross many, names; 100's in fact but the one that repeatedly cropped up was Anubis.

Determined to do a course yet very nervous about getting out of my comfort zone (after 8 years of fitness instructing) I rang the Anubis office- greeted with such help and warmth I new it was the one to go for.

The 28th of January 2009 came so quickly; the accommodation was stunning the house spectacular and the setting picturesque- it wowed, but the course was yet to begin and that was the important thing, the luxurious surroundings just a bonus.
10 students on the course from 22years to around 45years of age. 9 male, 1 female, 8military, 2 civilians.
Coming from a non-military back ground and female i would be lying if I was to say I wasn't apprehensive.

Within the first morning everyone had introduced themselves and got stuck into the subject at hand, first aid. The first aid was a great ice breaker and delivered with such humour. For those that already have a first aid qualification I'd recommend doing this one as it was totally different to previous first aid training I'd come across and a great way to learn about one another and begin working as a team before the Close Protection part starts.

The Close Protection tutors were second to none; vast knowledge, hugely respected within the CP industry and very different from each other which provided interesting points of view from different aspects of life. The course is a mixture of classroom based, group research and practical tasks; progressively becoming harder both physically and mentally. From little half hour trips out to the final exercises spanning two and half days.

At the end if the course I was enthused and keen to follow a career in Close Protection, my test results came through the post and 'passed' and my SIA licence quickly followed; within a week or two Ginge Johnson at Anubis had organised an interview for me with 'Guard Force', and a fortnight later I was in London working on a close protection task. The course had provided me with everything I needed to know and felt that all situations I came across we had talked about on the course, nothing had been left out or taken for granted.

Istarted off nervous and with little confidence; at the end off the course I not only learnt the essential skills for being out on the ground in the CP world but also invaluable life skills of confidence and worth. And for that i will always be eternally grateful to Anubis, especially Ginge.

CASE STUDY 2 – Anubis Close Protection Course

'I left the RAF after a full 22 year engagement and decided to enter the Private Security Industry as a Close Protection Operative. I had been on specialist formed Units during my last 12 years of Service and this coupled with my various Out of Area and UK taskings / military experiences ultimately led to my decision. I quickly realised that in order to embark upon this career change that I needed to have a sound resettlement package in order to give myself the best possible start for this very important transition.

I did extensive research on preferred suppliers of training from the CTP website and attended a few workshops. After attending a workshop in Tidworth by a company called Anubis, I immediately realised that this was the company that I had been looking for. I can't stress how important this decision was to me as I felt that everything you attain from this stage 'the first hurdle' will shape your future career, and more importantly the standard by which you set yourself.

I was extremely impressed by their 1 day presentation in which they explained all the stages of progression and of the career that we were all hoping to embark upon. Their attention to detail (professional standards) and level of expertise was quite simply the best that I had seen during my research. They were willing to answer all our questions / queries during the day and gave an excellent and robust presentation about the Security Industry.

You only have to go to their website and look at the biographies of their Director's to know that they have an abundance of experience and expertise of this arena. They are prominently Ex Special Forces and/or Ex Royalty Protection.

I attended their Close Protection training course in Hereford a few weeks later. It was an extremely professional course and not only did we learn the fundamentals about our chosen career, but also, gained from the Instructor's own experiences which they were more than happy to pass on. The facilities (all on site) are conducive to learning and are second to none.

Since my course I have been employed by several Companies on short term / long term contracts in and around the London area and also by Anubis themselves! I am learning about the Security Industry from the inside and now realise that I made the right choice as having Anubis on my CV (as my training provider) has given me the tools to operate professionally in this market place. I strongly advise Service leaver's to think carefully about their future resettlement training and highly recommend Anubis as the best company in this specific area of expertise'.

Case Study 3 Anubis Close Protection Course

After completion of a 22 year military career my aim was to transfer the skills gained during this period into employment within the civilian security industry. During my resettlement I embarked upon researching a variety of companies that provided Executive Close Protection training, making extensive use of the internet as well as speaking to colleagues who had recently embarked on a similar path. I attended a number of seminars organised by the training providers of these courses in order to obtain a closer view of what was being taught and the credentials of those that were providing the training.

My conclusion was that the company that stood apart from the others I had visited was Anubis Associates Limited based near Hereford, I booked onto the next available Close Protection course. From the first contact I made by telephone I was impressed with the way that all my questions were answered, from training right through to funding and accommodation. I visited the premises prior to booking the course and all of the staff and instructors that I met were very courteous and helpful.

The accommodation provided met all expectations of comfort and hospitality as well as being a secure and pleasant environment in which to conduct training.

The course was delivered by Instructors from specialist military and Police backgrounds as well as external speakers and trainers from within the Close Protection Industry. All of the training delivered was of the highest standard, backed by a wealth of operational experience from the instructors, all of whom were more than happy to share and discuss all aspects of working as a Close Protection Operative. The tempo of the training increased culminating in a challenging final exercise where all aspects of the course were assessed. By the end of course I felt a sense of achievement and of satisfaction that prepared me for a future career within the Close Protection and security industry.

After my military discharge I immediately sought to gain employment. The contacts and association I had made with Anubis during the Close Protection course aided me immensely. The majority of the instructors are still involved at the highest level within the Close Protection industry and were always available for advice and direction when I requested.

I undertook a number of short term tasks both overseas and within the UK. In addition I began to sub-contract for Anubis in a variety of arenas within the security sector. This in turn has led to a full time position within the company.

Case Study 4 Anubis Close Protection Course

The course was absolutely excellent. I chose to do a Close Protection Course through Anubis Associates Limited. I had a few friends who’d already studied through Anubis and they only had great things to say. The class sizes are pretty small, anywhere between 5-12 students and this is always better as you take more in and the instructors are able to spend more time with each individual. The course is based in the Hereford area. Anubis offers excellent accommodation where all food is prepared by two lovely housekeepers and there is more than enough to go around and the quality is 5 stars. The length of the course was approximately three and a half weeks starting off with a 4 day First Aid at Work course. The Close Protection training starts off with the law surrounding Close Protection in the UK followed by a week getting to grips with the many different roles and responsibilities of a Close Protection Operative. Once that’s done and dusted you start the scenarios which are always a good laugh and a pretty steep learning curve. All the instructors are very professional and have an excellent reputation within the Close Protection industry. Upon finishing the course you have a good grasp of what is expected of you in the Close Protection world.

I recommend this course to anyone wishing to get involved in Close Protection.
